Celebrating a uniquely diverse workforce

Celebrating a multicultural workplace isn’t reserved for one weekend a year at InterpreterLine – the specialist telephone and video interpreting division of All Graduates. Every day more than 100 different languages and dialects are spoken by our 800 telephone and video interpreters. And that’s not including the diversity of our clients‘ workplaces which include State and Federal government clients, hospitals and community health organisations, public and private schools.

Creating a uniquely diverse workforce at the AFL

All Graduates and InterpreterLine interpreters enjoy the AFL Multicultural Round of 12 -14 July 2013 at the MCG

“Our workplace is uniquely multicultural – how many other companies in Australia can say that their employees speak more than 100 languages and dialects between them?” says InterpreterLine’s CEO, Ismail Akinci.

Participating in local and national events to celebrate our diversity is a new initiative by InterpreterLine. It increases awareness of the critical contribution that interpreters and translators make to our multiculturally diverse community.

AFL Multicultural Community Ambassador

The Community Ambassador program connects the AFL with multicultural communities around Australia.  An InterpreterLine staff member volunteered for the year-long program. This developed into several hundred interpreters and translators attending the annual Multicultural Round at the MCG.

Australian Football Explained – translations in 31 languages

The translations project with the AFL Multicultural Program, enabled the delivery of a 31-language, Australian Football Explained eBook in time for the Multicultural Round. The diversity of the  languages included the established languages of Greek, Italian and Vietnamese along with newer and emerging languages, for example: Dinka, Tamil and Urdu.

The document can be utilised by everyone, in particular, community sporting clubs and organisations. It is accessible at the All Graduates website and AFL Community Club Resource webpage.
